KINGTIGER ARDENNES FRONT, BOX CONTAINS TWO FIGURES AND RUBBER TRACKS, TAMIYA 1:35 SCALE. PzKpfw VI Ausf. B Tiger II or colloquially Konigstiger (Royal Polish Tiger) was a German heavy tank of World War II. The first prototypes of the vehicle were built in 1943 and series production continued in 1944–1945, ending with the production of 487 vehicles. The Tiger II was powered by a single Maybach HL 230 P30 engine producing 700 hp. It was armed with 1 x 88 mm PaK 43 L/71 cannon and 2 x 7.92 mm MG34 machine guns. PzKpfw VI Ausf. The B Tiger II was created in response to Albert Speer's January 1943 assignment to the Henschel and Porsche factories to design a new heavy tank for the German armed forces. The first prototypes were ready by October of that year, and a Henschel-designed vehicle went into series production, with 50 units of the new tank featuring a Porsche-designed turret (the so-called Porsche turret). The Royal Tiger had a large anti-tank gun, capable of destroying any Red Army or Allied armored vehicle of the time at a range of 1,500–2,000 m. It was also very well armored, and its armor was carefully contoured. Indeed, the new German tank was unattainable by most enemy vehicles at ranges beyond 1,000–1,200 m. The Tiger II undoubtedly had numerous disadvantages: first and foremost, its engine was far too weak, the same as the lighter, 11-ton Tiger I. The gearbox and the entire drivetrain were also damaged, which was extremely faulty and prone to failure. The Tiger II was also incredibly long and expensive to produce, which, considering Germany's difficult situation on the fronts in 1944–1945, was also a major disadvantage. The Royal Tiger underwent its baptism of fire during the Normandy operation in the summer of 1944 as part of the 503rd Heavy Tank Battalion and 101st SS Heavy Tank Battalion. Subsequently, units equipped with these tanks also fought on the Eastern Front in 1944-1945, and perhaps the largest number of Tiger II tanks in one operation was used in the Ardennes Offensive between 1944 and 1945.
