Gorizia is a Zara -class heavy cruiser . Length: 45.5 cm . Built at the Odero Terni Orlando shipyard in Livorno, she was launched on 28 December 1930 and entered service on 23 December 1931. She participated in numerous battles during the Second World War before being rendered inoperative on 10 April 1943 during an American air raid on La Maddalena. Sent to La Spezia for repairs, she was unable to follow the rest of the naval squadron to Malta after the signing of the armistice on 8 September. She was captured by the Germans and later damaged by a combined Italian-British raider group. At the end of the war, she was found half-sunk in La Spezia.
