Academy 14103 ADMIRAL GRAF SPEE 1:350 Admiral Graf Spee was a Deutschland-class heavy cruiser that served in the German Kriegsmarine during World War II. The Germans initially classified the ships of this class as battleships (Panzerschiff in German), but later reclassified them as heavy cruisers (Schwere Kreuzer) in 1940; the British, however, classified them as pocket battleships (Pocket Battleship in English), a designation that has remained as a characteristic of the ships of this class. Admiral Graf Spee is known for having supported the first naval battle between the Kriegsmarine and the Royal Navy during World War II known as the Battle of the River Plate, near Montevideo, which ended with the battleship being scuttling.
